HERE WE GO

This super handsome stud of a fella got all spiffed up this afternoon 

and had me snap a few pictures of him, 

then we spent a few hours putting the finishing touches on his application,

and then we spent several hundred dollars...

And then we hit submit!!

And that was that.

Tomorrow morning residency programs all over the country will be seeing this face!

It is a pretty good looking face.

OUR ALMOST KINDERGARTENER

We just got home from the Columbus school district enrollment office where we got 

this goon all signed up for kindergarten!

I'm not sure how I feel about it...

She on the other hand, is very excited! 

August cannot come fast enough for her.

 I can not believe she is getting this big!  We sure do love this smart, not so little anymore, angel girl.

Goodbye First Year

This picture is slightly monumental for a few reasons:

1. It's the first time I actually did anything with my hair in... well... a long time (not that you can tell, thank you humidity!)
2. Tim posed willingly for a selfie!
3. It's the first time since March that we were out without kids
4. It was taken right before we splurged a little to go to an Indian restaurant where we both tried dishes we'd never had, or heard of actually.  It was delicious!
5. The blonde boy in the blue shirt is officially a second year med student!

This morning Tim very successfully finished his last final of his first year of medical school, so it's goodbye year one!  Only 3 more to go!
Congratulations to the smartest, cutest, most hard working and most amazing man I know!

Up To Date

Let's see. How about some updates? I have a few.  

Quick version, we're loving Ohio and doing awesome!

The Move

Last week our family split up for a couple days and made the long 2,009 mile trek out to our new home.  Tim and Reed traveled via the freeway route.  They made the entire trip in one 34 hour stretch taking turns napping and only stopping for gas. Serious troopers.

Brinlee and I came via air a few days later.  Our trip was only about 8 hours, and we napped together  :)  This was Brinlee's first time on an "awe-paleen" (airplane) and to say she loved it is a total understatement.  I had planned for the worst, but ended up having a blast.  She did awesome!  In fact, she took it better than I did I think.  She couldn't get enough of the "funny tummy" feeling.  Baby Peanut on the other hand did not care for it much.  I spent most of the trip feeling pretty woozy.  All around not bad though.  It sure was fun!

New Home Sweet Home

Boy, thinking back on the trip it already feels like it was forever ago... we are mostly settled in and loving the area so far.  Brinlee already has a little boyfriend down the street, and we have some awesome neighbors.  We still have unpacking/organizing/cleaning/furniture arranging/decorating to do, but our house is already starting to feel like home. 

So far, Ohio feels good.  We feel like our family will be very happy here!

The Big 5

On August 1st we celebrated 5 fantastic years together! 

Remember these kids?

Ok I guess we haven't changed that much... and we still feel like kids (ok, we still really are kids).  It's so weird that we have been married five years.  Not that it's a super long time... but what an adventure it has been already!  In fact, since August 2009:

     - We've lived in 3 states, 5 cities, and 6 houses.

     - We've changed 2 very flat tires.

     - We've worked 5 different jobs.

     - Our biggest purchases have been a laptop, TV, and camera.

     - We made one super cute little kiddo and have the next one cookin'!

     - We attended 2 universities and finished 4 college degrees, 2 internships, and a preceptorship.

     - We saw a gas price increase of $1.17 per gallon.

   

Oh it's been fun.  This was actually the 3rd of our 5 anniversaries that we have celebrated right in the middle of moving.  I'd say we need to quit making major life changes during the summer... but perhaps the start of a new adventure is just the thing for something like an anniversary!

We did get to celebrate early with an evening out back in Boise.  I sure love having that goofball as my full-time sweetheart.  I can't imagine a better friend.  

Bring on more years, we're loving them! 

The Belly

This pregnancy has been getting a little gypped as far as press time goes... we've been busy.  But baby girl is steadily growing and kickin' around like crazy.  We are 25 weeks along and so far doing awesome!  I still feel like I'm getting big way faster this go around.  We're already having to sleep with a few extra pillows.  Not too uncomfy yet though, so no complaints!

He's Official

Well now.  Check out this stud!

Doesn't he look smooth??  Tim had his white coat ceremony the other night and officially kicked off the next four years of our lives.  From here on out he eats, drinks and sleeps school.  And he is actually really excited!  I am too.  He is such a cute smarty pants.  This all already looks so good on him, he'll be awesome!

A Little Out and About

We have been doing a little bit of running around.  On Saturday night the medical school hosted an evening at the zoo for the first year students and their families.  We had heard about the zoo before we even came out here.  It's actually rated the number one zoo in the US, and it is huge!  We were there for a couple hours and didn't even see a quarter of it.  But Brinlee did make fast friends with one of the gorillas there, and we did eat some delicious hot dogs.  We will definitely be going back. 

New Addition

We've added a new friend to our little family.

Meet Jarvis.

Medical school ruined all my years of hard work and gave Tim an I-pad.  For some weird, perhaps totally irrational reason I tend to be a bit anti-gadget.  Call me old fashioned, but I kind of like to stick with pencil and paper.  Maybe less efficient (as Tim tells me, often), but why spend the money, right?  

Well... though I hate to admit it.... I got my hands on the little bugger and it turns out I am kind of a fan of Jarvis.  Tim already new he would like it, he'd been dropping I-pad hints for the last 2 years. But Jarvis is slick, the PBS kids app is awesome!, Siri is pretty fun to talk to, and I can get way better Bejeweled scores.  Sweet!  Luckily Tim will have him most of the time, so hopefully I don't get too addicted.  But I can see us being friends.    

And there you have it!  All the Borup family info I can think of for now.  We're all up to date.

Now, I think I'll go get some chocolate milk.  It sounds good right now, don't you think?

March Madness

Not to be fooled by that title, this is not actually a basketball post.  Although we have been keeping up with that a little bit as well (Go Kentucky!), we've mostly just been trying to keep up with life for the last few weeks.  I usually like to feel a little more in control, but most of March was a whirlwind that we're trying to recover from... it's been exhausting!

We're still just giddy over med school!  :)  In the spirit of St Patricks day, I had actually put together a "lucky" jar.  We used the rocks that Brinlee collected on her Seuss week rock walk and as our family saw Tender Mercies from the Lord, we added rocks to the jar.  The idea was to watch it fill throughout the month.  But, when we got the long awaited good news, Tim went ahead and dumped all the rocks in the jar and we spent a couple weeks  just enjoying how awesome it looked!

We moved to Boise! Two things about that:

First:  I am really dreading that drive we have to make to Ohio, because....
Second:  The trip over here was absolutely terrible!  It poured rain the whole way, and Brinlee hated the car!  It's supposed to be a 3 hour drive, and we stopped 3 or 4 times, just for her!  Tim drove the truck with all our stuff which left me and her alone in the van.  It was a long day.  That poor baby needs a travel buddy, badly!

But we're here now and happy.  Tim still has his Masters internship and thesis to finish up and the opportunities here are going to make that a whole lot smoother.  Besides, I think we'll really love the family time.  I did have to leave work though and last Saturday I worked my last shift.  I am really going to miss everyone I worked with.  They were awesome!  :(  But I don't know that I will miss night shift so much.  I kind of forgot what's it's like to function during the daytime.  I like it!

Oh yeah, and I got my hair cut!  That "yay I'm home and done with work!" photo really doesn't do it justice.  We had been up for 18+ hours by then and my hairs were a little droopy.  But I have really liked it.  

My mom and sister came for a few days during the packing process and brought some cheesecake and peanut butter Buckeye balls.  I managed to snap zero photos, but we sure ate good.  Amen.

Packing is the worst!  It's so tedious and annoying, and by the end, Brinlee was going stir crazy!  After all, a girl can only watch Toy Story so many times before she starts getting antsy for more attention (read: before she starts getting curious and hurts herself).  Not long into the packing she tipped some bookcase shelves onto herself and smashed her finger, and the night before we left she bounced off of our bed into a wall and bit through her tongue.  Poor kid.

She sure had a time in those boxes though.  She could not stay out of them and really couldn't stay off of them.  She can unpack faster than I can pack (frustrating!), and she kept climbing clear up on the pile and then would yell over and over "high! high!".  She was pretty dang cute though.  Love that fuzz head!

Hopefully April is a little less hectic.  This month wore us out!  It's a good worn out though, we have lots of exciting stuff to look forward to!  Now, back to playing with this less stressed, less injured, and much more happy little girl.

So Happy, So Blessed

Last night when I left for work Tim and I had our fingers crossed,

and this morning when I got home we were making plans to move across the country!

Yes, the long awaited day has finally come.  Tim is officially a future doctor!  He’s such a cute smarty pants  :)  For the sake of reliving past stressful experiences that are now merely fond memories, I’ll go ahead and jot down a few fun notes.  

Tim first applied in October.  It’s an annoyingly long (and expensive!)  process.  You choose what schools you want to apply to and send in your initial application, then any school that thinks you’re worth a look sends you a second application.  Once you’ve sent that in, they decide if they want to interview you, and from there they decide if they want to offer you a spot… kind of a headache, super stressful, and lots of waiting...  I hate waiting.  Tim had picked out 20 different schools.  For a few months he checked his email about 50 times a day, filled out several secondary applications, and waited to hear.  His wife was very anxious.

By the end of January, Tim had two interview offers, both of which were for pretty impressive schools.  His first interview went well, but it was after the Ohio interview when he came home really anxious.  He felt like the interview went really well, he loved the campus, loved the program, loved the opportunities there, and loved the area.  OSU  jumped right to the top of his med school wish list and had him daydreaming about becoming a Buckeye.  The board of admissions said it would be a few weeks (March 11^th ish) before he would hear anything. 

And so, we waited,

“patiently”.

There’s something quite exhausting about getting a few gray hairs, losing sleep, having your thoughts preoccupied with one thing, being super irritable, and being stuck with nothing to do about it but wait.  It was a long few weeks… for both of us!  Needless to say we were ecstatic last night when Tim got a personal phone call from the dean of admissions at Ohio State University letting him know that he has been accepted into the 2014 class!

Even between the two of us, we don’t have enough fingers and toes to count all of the tender mercies we have seen over the past several months.  We are so excited and are feeling SO blessed!  Tim is such an impressive smarty pants and has worked so hard.  We feel like Columbus is absolutely where we are meant to be headed and can already see how the Lord's hand has guided us along the whole way.  We are so grateful for the opportunity and are excited for the new adventure.  Can't wait to see where the years take us!

Beginning of the End

Dun dada DAH!!! (read with an air of triumphant trumpet sound)  Tim is officially in his last semester of BYU undergraduate school, and he is LOVING it!  ..... sort of...

Getting into medical school is not for the faint hearted!  But at least there is a light at the end of this tunnel.  The forecast for now?  Sunny!

.... never mind that from there the forecast is school, school, and more school... we're just reveling in this glory for now.  July graduation here we come!

What's New?

Extra Extra Read All About It!  Hot off the press, a
Borup Family Update: 

Our little family has been super busy lately with quite a bit of new and exciting stuff!  I am now a workin' woman.  That's right, I have a New Job!!!  It's my first real nursing job actually, so I've been learning my way around the hospital for the last few weeks and am trying to get a hang of things.  But so far I am loving it!  The twelve hour shifts get a little long, but the New Numbers in our savings account are wonderful!

Plus, I've been able to justify a few New Additions to my wardrobe.  My New Tennis Shoes are getting a workout, and I went and bought some New Scrubs, which are super cute, but unfortunately may not fit for much longer thanks to my New and Increased Belly Size.

Baby girl is 35 weeks along now and still busy growing!  Which is good, but we've had to experiment with some New Sleeping Arrangements... namely lots of pillows.  :)

The man of the house has had quite a schedule as well.  A couple weeks ago Tim went to Utah and presented a New Batch of Research at a conference, for which we bought him a New (and quite dashing looking) Pair of Slacks.  Last week he finished up finals and now has some New Grades on his transcripts, and this week he has been enjoying some New Free Time while he waits to start a New Semester on Tuesday. 

On a non-academic note, Tim has discovered a New Love for cooking!  Actually, he probably would not agree with that... but after a long day at work I sure love it!

In other news, we have discovered a  New Favorite Treat and in the last two and a half weeks have shamefully devoured three batches of caramel corn...

The New Springy Weather finally showing its face is perfect for a New Hobby though.  We had a fun park picnic and have gone on a few sunny walks. which burns calories, right? ... so I say bring on the carmel corn!

We have a New Lamp in our living room, and actually now have a completely New Apartment Set-Up conveniently conducive to the soon-to-be New Baby (more info on that forthcoming).  My sister got married last weekend and we now have a New Member of the Family!  Big congratulations to the Stanford's and warm welcomes to David, we look forward to the memories!

And we just got our New Favorite Movie in the mail!  We Bought a Zoo - Highly recommend it.

Doubly Accomplished

We are getting things done over here and it feels so good!  Tim just received notice that one of his research abstracts will be appearing in the January 2012 issue of the Journal of Investigative Medicine... sounds pretty professional doesn't it?  We looked at the author index page last night and there he was, Borup, TC.  Super exciting!  AND I am now officially DeeAnna Borup RN, BSN!  While Tim was off internshipping, I filled my time finishing up the requirements for critical care nursing and management and just received notice that my information was cleared and my bachelor's diploma is on its way!  

I think this calls for some celebrating!  Frozen yogurt anyone?!  

Here we go a internship-ing

Well exciting news here at the Borup home! Tim has been accepted for an internship with a physician in Indianapolis!!!! So i guess it's Indy here we come! :)

This physician is an organ transplant surgeon, which translates over into 'really cool things for Tim to see and do'! (I believe that's a direct translation) The details have just worked out too nicely to even begin to think that there wasn't divine hand in all of this, so we're really grateful for that and anxious to see where it will take us!

The only bad news is that now we only have a few weeks to lease our apartment, pack, finish up this semester's classes here and get across the country... slightly stressful.

Hit the Books

Well well well, how the tables turn! For most of the nursing program Tim lived as a lonely man while I did nothing but study. But as of April, I found my schedule very much open while he found himself in his toughest semester yet! Poor guy... I decided to post an idea of the new contrast. This was Tim's weekend...

and, though we didn't get much photo evidence of what my weekend looked like (I can't really take pictures of myself napping...), the fact that I had time to take all of these should say something about how "busy" I was. Awe, the joys of an education! Study on Tim, study on

College Education!

YAY!!! Finally!!! After a year and a half of biology work and 3 years of living and breathing nursing I am finally done! Oh so wonderful! Granted, I still do have a few classes to finish up to get the next level nursing degree... and I still have to pass the state board exam hanging over my head to be officially official. But at least I will be able to see what life looks like outside of the library! Hello world, and make way for a new college graduate!!! Feels good

Back to School

Well school has started up again and is definitely rockin' and rollin'! I successfully survived my first semester of the nursing program and am now 2 weeks into the second one... they don't waist any time that's for sure. We have already had a big test and last Thursday we didn't leave the lab until 10:00 pm. And Tim is just as busy.... I think... we don't really see each other. Long days so far! But the operating room is sweet! Here's to science degrees!
