Pink Pink Pink

I know this could look like a pre-mature Valentine's day party, but don't be fooled.  This is a "YAY we're having a BABY GIRL" party!  I set my appointment for the ultra sound before I realized that Tim would have class and thus, regrettably, wouldn't be able to be there... and then I felt really bad.  But, I also really wanted to know if that little bean was a girl or a boy...
...so I planned a party!  After my appointment I ran to the store for the makings of an announce-the-baby-gender-to-the-husband surprise and set it all up before he got home.  And it turned out pretty cute I would say!

We can't wait to welcome a sweet little baby girl.  In fact, I'v already had to stop myself from buying a bunch of super cute pink outfits... it's all so fun!  Congratulations to everyone who guessed a girl.  Enjoy a pink cupcake on us!

Blue? Or Pink?

"Snakes and snails and puppy dog tails" or "sugar and spice and everything nice"?

That has been the big question for a few weeks now.  After our original hopes for finding out the baby's gender turned out to be a false alarm, we have been keeping everyone in suspense and have been anxiously awaiting (read: been dying to know) the exciting news.  But, we are a little farther along now and are finally excited to announce that we are the proud future parents of a beautiful
baby GIRL!

Isn't she darling! She almost didn't cooperate with the ultrasound, she's kind of shy and quite a wiggler.  But she eventually decided to hold still for her close up, and even gave us a little wave!

We are pretty excited to be looking forward to a sweet little lady.  Girls have such sweet spirits!  And the little bows and shoes are so fun!  Besides, she already looks so darn cute!  :)  Now it's officially time to go shopping!! Looks like we're planning pink for Borup baby #1... so exciting!!!

Winter Wonderland

Winters in Rexburg are a treat.  They are notoriously freezing cold and come with LOTS of snow.  But alas, this year it has not been so. It's the end of January and so far no snow?  No wind?  Not even sub-zero temperatures?!  In the words of my grandfather, it's the "darndest winter I've ever seen"!

But never to fear!  Today Rexburg has been more than making up for lost time and on the ground all around there can be found piles of the frozen makings of winter fun! ...

... and that means snowmen!!!  I call him Bosworth, our friendly front door greeter!

Awe winter, there you are!  And just in time, we're supposed to be heading to Boise tomorrow... possibly no bueno.... but it sure looks pretty!

Happy Winter!

Doubly Accomplished

We are getting things done over here and it feels so good!  Tim just received notice that one of his research abstracts will be appearing in the January 2012 issue of the Journal of Investigative Medicine... sounds pretty professional doesn't it?  We looked at the author index page last night and there he was, Borup, TC.  Super exciting!  AND I am now officially DeeAnna Borup RN, BSN!  While Tim was off internshipping, I filled my time finishing up the requirements for critical care nursing and management and just received notice that my information was cleared and my bachelor's diploma is on its way!

I think this calls for some celebrating!  Frozen yogurt anyone?!

Productivity Report

It's only Tuesday this week and I have already learned a few very important things about myself:
   - I could eat hot cereal any time of the day
   - I really don't like to brush my teeth with warm water
   - I am not CPR certified... apparently that expired in December... not so good for the job search
   - I can be a horrible time waister without a set schedule and/or "to do" list!

Luckily it is only Tuesday!  Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, you better watch out because I am keeping oatmeal on hand, turning the faucet to cold, getting re-certified, and I am making a list!  Amen.

In the meantime I will ease some worries and assure you that I haven't been completely unproductive.  In fact, the other day I decided to tackle a few projects and thus entered the Wonderful World of Disney.  For some reason I am at my best when I have animated joy playing in the background (does that really need explained?).  Most recently I have been a fan of Cars, Chicken Little, Beauty and the Beast, Jungle Book, and Bug's Life.  They work every time!  And certainly didn't fail this time.  I sat myself down and a few movies and a couple hours of work later I had a complete, updated, and pretty spiffy looking resume done, as well as this!  Some new home decor.

I got the idea from a friend's blog who got the original idea here.  I simply expanded it to fit a bigger empty wall space.  I haven't decided for sure if it's exactly the look I love, it may go through some tweaking.  But kind of fun, and also productive.

PLUS!  I finally beat Tim at an evening of Tetris!!!  Productive?  I think so!  If only we had photo proof of that, I'm still reveling in the victory!

Bump

I have received multiple inquiries regarding this particular post topic and have been meaning to get it up for a while now... I apologize for my slow-ness.  But without further adieu, I give you, dear reader, the much anticipated and long overdue
Baby Bump!

Here is Bean at 15 weeks... and not yet really showing.  If you squint and tilt your head you can kind of make it out, but even then not really...

Holiday snacking was good for us though!  Here we are at 20 weeks and finally making an appearance...

And here we are now!  A happy 22 week baby and a happy mama!

Again, still anxiously awaiting the whole boy or girl excitement.  But he/she has become quite an active little wiggler and I've been able to feel him/her move quite a bit!  In fact, Tim has even felt a kick or two, though not a lot.  The baby gets a little shy for daddy.  While we were in Boise my wonderful sister-in-law passed down her maternity clothes (thanks Jaylene), so I've been experimenting with the pregnancy look a little bit...
kind of like dress up...
it's way fun!

Love that cute little bean!

Where I Kick Off My Shoes

There truly is no place like home!  (insert small dog, sparkly red shoes, and heel clicking here)

After a lot of unpacking, a lot of cleaning, and a little bit of recovery-napping (on my part anyway), we are happy to announce that all of the boxes are unpacked and our little place finally feels like home again!  :)  Thankfully we were able to come back to the place we were before (see here) which we were glad about, we love the apartment!  I am still trying to decide where to hang all of our pictures, so the walls are a little bare. And we're experimenting with some furniture rearranging... But the book shelves are stacked, the cupboards are full, and we are back to eating home-made food!  Though I will surely miss pizza and Taco Bell, you can't beat home cookin'!  And the soup we had tonight was SO yummy!!

Ok, I'll share, it's "souper" easy! (I crack myself up)  Just boil a cup and a half to 2 cups of your favorite mixed beans until they're soft.  Then add:
- ham hocks (I used shredded chicken)
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 large can of tomatoes (fresh works too)
- 1 pepper pod or 1 tsp. chili powder
- the juice of 1 lemon
- 1 to 3 cloves minced garlic
- salt and pepper to taste
Let simmer for 30 minutes and enjoy a yummy, healthy, heart warming meal!  We'll be putting it on the "make again" list for sure.

And now on to enjoying a nice evening at home... such bliss!  Now if I could only beat Tim just once at this blasted game of Tetris life would be complete...

Oh There's No Place Like....

HOME for the Holidays!!!

I absolutely love Christmas, and being able to spend it with lots family was perfect!  In fact, we lucked out with quite a nice long, extended holiday vacation.  We left Indiana on a Friday, got to Boise Sunday the 9th, enjoyed two weeks and a few days of Christmas-ing there through to the 28th, and then went down to Utah and continued festivities with more family there through New Years.  We had a blast... but unfortunately managed to take zero pictures.  Such a bummer.  But the lack of photos does not equate with a lack of fun!  In fact, perhaps we should review some Christmas 2011 highlights:

1.  Going to the Boise Philharmonic production of The Messiah with mom and Amy
2.  Tyler getting the fart-supressing underwear "from Santa"
3.  Derek backing into our car
4.  A night at the movies with dad and Dianna (Sherlock Holmes 2 is fantastic by the way)
5.  Playing murder in the dark and "oink" with the Borup nieces and nephews
6.  Finally being back in Idaho!
7.  Tim tackling a nasty cold and case of the stomach flu like a total champion
8.  Brian and Aiden in cute new matching suits for Christmas
9.  Christmas being on a Sunday!
10. And these beauties...

I know it's lame to pick a gift we gave as a highlight... but we had my older sister for the gift giving rotation this year and made her and her two boys these team T-shirts!  And I was so pleased with how they turned out!  They totally are team awesome, and I thought it was more than time to make that known.

A fabulous Christmas, a wonderful New Year, sad to see 2011 go, but we're happy to welcome you 2012!  We have big plans for you (no pressure) and are anxious to see the memories you'll make!

Indiana Chronicles Chapter 6: The Exodus

Well... the time finally came.  They say that all good things must come to an end, and our time in Indiana was definitely a good thing.  Tim got some awesome opportunities and we were able to see and do a ton.    Leaving there was a bit of a bitter sweet.  But leave we did.  In fact, we loaded up the car and drove straight through... yup...
Time of departure: noon on Friday
Time of arrival in Idaho Falls: 2:00 Saturday afternoon.

26 hours on the road only stopping for gas. And of those 26 hours I drove a total of 6... poor Tim, I guess he's better at the late night long drive thing.  But we made it and are happily back in Idaho!  YAY for mountains again!

So, this was our pre-Indiana odometer picture taken in July...

and here it is post-Indiana and just in time for Christmas.

Not a bad adventure Borups, not bad at all!

World Travelers

Though our time in Indiana was AMAZING, it was a lot of hard work... plus living the "temporary life-style" does start to wear on you a bit.  Needless to say, toward the end of internshiping, Tim was a little burned out, I was ready for something different, and in general, it was time for a new adventure.  So we jumped online and excitedly discovered that we could find some cheap plane tickets to some really fun places.  And that was it!  Decision made!

Destination East Coast
Stop #1: Sunshiny Florida!

My wonderful grandparents live in Florida and we don't get to see them nearly often enough.  So, we jumped on a flight and went for a visit!  Unfortunately Baby Bean didn't much care for flying, and for the first time in my life I got pretty sick on a flight.  But once safely on the ground in Florida, it was nothing but smiles and good fun!

We took an afternoon and went over to the ocean!  If I had asked myself "Self, where do you see yourself on the last day of November?", "Why, on the beach of course!" surely would not have been my answer.  And yet... there we are!

Two of my favorite people in the world!  Thanks for a wonderful trip Maw Maw and Paw Paw, sure love you!

Tim played in the sand... and built a toilet... such a creative mind

And here is Baby Bean on the beach!  Can't tell?  Neither could we.  This is 15 weeks along and still not much to show... late bloomer I guess.  But he/she loved it there!

Maw Maw and Paw Paw kept us well fed, always a highlight!

Stop #2: Washington DC

Tim had never been to Washington DC, and it just so happens that I have a best friend living there right now... perfect combination!  Plus, we got bumped up to first class flying in.  Destiny?  I think so!

At the capital

Out to the see the monuments

Unfortunately the reflection pool was under construction...

We were very sad about that

Space and Air museum and a very wet Arlington cemetery

All in all, a fabulous trip!  And the perfect capper to a five-month-cross-country adventure!

Now for the drive home...

yuck
